Official Remarks – Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration

It is both an honor and a privilege to be with you here this morning as we pay tribute and respect to Dr. Martin Luther King. I bring you greetings from the Office of the Mayor, and on behalf of your City Council and this great City.

Toady is a day of reflection. Reflection of a man who was not a God, but a man ordained by God to make the Christ-like sacrifices so that we could make the needed progress in our community and in our lives.

We have begun to see the advances he dreamed about in our own city. Our fist African-American Mayor, Senator, and now President.

But his dream was not to get some of us to the top, but to lift all of us from the bottom.

His dream cannot be measured from the White House — down, but from your house — up.

Your City bows her head in respect to a great man, and a passionate leader, with an even greater vision for our future — and that of our children.
